Safety and Health Fair

Next year, Grace McWayne School will host a day-long Safety and Health Fair on Friday, October 5, 2012.  Classes will rotate through various stations designed to teach health and safety.   Some of the stations will include bus evacuation, first aid, exercise and nutrition.

While we do have quite a few contacts willing to participate in the fair, we’d like to reach out the Grace McWayne family for further support.  If you or someone you know would like to present information about the following topics, please contact Nikki Pappanduros at Nicole.Pappanduros@bps101.net.  The topics are:

  • Service Dogs and How they are Utilized
  • Extreme Weather Preparedness
  • Stranger Danger (usually presented by a police officer)
  • Dental Hygiene

Using the resources found within our school community not only helps build municipal relationships at a young age but further connects the students to the place they call home.

PTO Sponsors Two New Online Resource Subscriptions

BooksThe PTO is happy to sponsor two new on line resource subscriptions for our LRC this year.

www.pebblego.com   is a database that features expertly-leveled text and navigation specifically designed for your beginning researchers.  Enriched with spoken-word audio, text highlighting and audio and video clips, PebbleGo builds a foundation of research skills for every learner.

This year the students will have access to both Pebble-go Animals and Pebble-go Earth and Space Science.

www.tumblebooks.com  is animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.  Tumblebooks even lists the accelerated reading level so that your student can choose stories that are right for their reading level.  Another bonus with this subscription is that the students can read the book at home and take the AR (accelerated reading) quiz in our LRC when they are finished.

Both of these programs are password protected so please ask your child for the information so that you can access the programs from home.  If you are having any problems accessing the sites please feel free to contact Gerry Wyatt in the LRC at Geralyn.Wyatt@bps101.net
